Physical Exams

Sports Physicals: are physicals to clear a child for a specific sport or activity. They are limited to children who are 19 or younger attending a local school. These physicals are not health physicals but clearance only so do not involve prevention or screening test to diagnose early disease. These physicals are not covered by Medicaid and many insurances. They are brief physicals and can usually be done easily on a walk-in basis. They are done on a cash only basis and we will not bill insurance.

Medical Clearance Physicals: These include CDL, employment or Surgical clearance exams. These physicals are clearing you to either; drive a commercial vehicle, do a particular job for a specific company or medically clear for a procedure, test or surgery. They are required by the legal entity who requests the exam, such as the State of Alaska. The specific requirements regarding clearance for the job or activity are established by the same entity and our own Medical opinion. These are clearance exams only so do not involve prevention, detection or screening for disease except where specifically requested or implied. These are not usually covered by insurance, though many employers will pay for the exam. Pre-operative exams are usually covered by insurance and usually billed as comprehensive exams because of their complexity and diagnostic screening

General Wellness Physicals : These are comprehensive physicals involving all aspects of health and wellness. They usually entail a longer exam time and often include diagnostic tests such as; EKG, X-rays, Labs, or vaccinations depending on your age. For Patients under 21, these are called Well Child physicals. Most Insurance and Medicaid will pay for these exams at 100 percent. They usually include health counseling and screening for common diseases or situations, dependent on age. These physicals contain the essentials of the clearance physicals above so we, at PFMC, include any additional forms completion, such as sports or CDL clearance, free of charge with a Complete physical.
